Step 1:- Search for a Book Lover
Identify or search for a person who reads a lot. Say, for example, your English teacher. Go to him and ask him to suggest a book for you. To begin with, pick a book that has characters and settings you can relate with. Try books by Indian authors or stories set in India. This will help you understand the background and context better and you can stay glued to the book.
Step 2:- Choose a reading spot and a reading hour
Now you have a book in hand. What you world require next is a comfortable place to sit and read. Choose a favourite place or a corner where you can read, without any distraction. It can be your study room, a library, terrace or balcony.
Next, fix up a time for reading: Say-from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. During this one hour, you will reading a fiction or a non-fiction every single day. Remember, to develop a habit, you need to be disciplined committed and consistent.
Step 3:- Take Notes
Have a notebook and a dictionary by your side. If you have a mobile, you can also download a dictionary app. As and when you read, look up the difficult words in the dictionary , make a note of them and try to use them in your conversation with others. Use a highlighter to underline your favourite sentences and words.
Step 4:- Take up a Book reading challenge
Enter into a book challenge with a friend, who also wants to develop the habit of reading. Commit yourself to read at least one book every week. Once you complete a book, exchange the books you hoth read that week. Exchange ideas and have a discussion in the second week.
Step 5:- Try an unusual genere
Once you finiah the first book, go to the same teacher or someone else and ask for a book suggestion in a different genere. As you finish each book, make it a point to try out a different genere and a different author. If you know more than 2 languages, try those languages. Try many types of books such as, classics and award-winning books. You can also try to become a member of a library. Go on like this. Make reading a habit, after some time you will start falling in love with books.
