The style of music,
dance, sculpture, painting, architecture, sculpture and other arts that
flourished in Europe from the early 17th until the mid-18th
century is none other than the Baroque style.
Catholic Church encouraged
it as a means to counter the simplicity and austerity of Protestant, art, music
and architecture.
Renaissance art and
Mannerism were followed by it and preceded the Neoclassical and Rococo styles.
To achieve a sense of
awe, some features were used by the Baroque style. They are - exuberant detail,
movement, contrast, surprise, grandeur and deep colour.
It was the start of 17th
century when the style began in Rome, then spread rapidly to France, northern
Italy, Spain and Portugal, then to Austria and southern Germany.
If talking about its
example, The Hawa Mahal in Jaipur would be the most suitable example of
Baroque architecture.
The Baroque style had
evolved into an even more flamboyant style, which was called rocaille or
Rococo.
